The Sewing Directory Privacy Policy
The Sewing Directory is a directory of online sewing businesses based in the UK. This privacy policy details how we deal with your personal data. We take your privacy seriously and will only use your data for our own internal purposes. We never sell data on to a third party.
What personal data we collect and how it is handled
Competition entries
For the majority of competitions your entries come direct to us and such data will be handled in accordance with this privacy policy. After the competition ends and the winners have been chosen all non-winning entries are deleted within 4 weeks. The winner’s name and town/city will be published on our site or social media accounts but the full address, e-mail and phone number will be kept confidential. The prize giving companies send prizes direct to the winners so if you win one of our competitions your details are forwarded to the prize giving company so they can ship your prize.
On some occasions the entries will go directly to the company providing the prize, this will always be clearly indicated and we ask prize givers to include an opt out of marketing clause. Some competitions require the entries to be sent direct to the prize giving company, you will be able to tell this from the e-mail address given for entries, in that instance they will have all the information you put on your entry which will be governed by their privacy policy not ours.
On occasion our competitions may be used for market research for the prize giving companies, in that instance your response is given anonymously to them. Your address, e-mail and name will be withheld, and only the feedback/answer you give will be passed on.
Newsletter Subscribers
When you subscribe to our newsletter we collect your name and e-mail address so we can send you our newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the e-mail.
Customers
As per the terms and conditions any information that you have put on your listing will be published on the site and can be viewed by anyone using the site at any time.
We keep a log of your name, company name, weblink, date of joining the site, payment amount and e-mail address for our records. Said records will be securely stored and only accessible only by people working for The Sewing Directory. We keep the data specified below for a period of 1 year after you leave the site (in case you wish to return) after that point it is deleted. Payments are processed through PayPal so your account details/credit card details are not stored on our system. If you contact us, by post, phone or e-mail a record of that contact may be kept in case we need to refer back to it.
Cookies
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
We use analytical cookies on our site to analyse how visitors use our site, through Google Analytics and Google Search Console. These cookies track where our site users are coming from, what content they view on the site and how long they stay on the site as well as which browser they use and which geographical location the user is based in. They do not give us any personal information such as user name or address.
We use this information to understand what content on the site is popular to help us decide on future content, we also use it to assess the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns and social networking. We want to make sure we have the content you want on our site, and that we are advertising in the right places to attract sewists to the site.

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Social media
Any comments or images you publicly post on our social media accounts will be visible to our followers and anyone who looks at our accounts. We reserve the right to remove any posts or comments by third parties that we do not want visible on our accounts.
Any messages you send us via social media will be retained in our message history in case we need to refer back to them in the future but will not be shared publicly without your permission.
