The Ultimate Trousers by Sew Over It
Stylish Simple Classic Trouser
I chose this sewing pattern as I loved the simple but stylish silhouette to The Ultimate Trousers pattern by Sew Over It. They reminded me of a pair of cigarette pants which I bought a few years ago and loved so much.
As soon as I saw this pattern I knew it would be ideal to recreate a similar pair.
I had not ventured into trying any of the Sew Over It patterns before but had read great reviews on social media so was intrigued to try for myself.

Rio Stretch Cotton Sateen Fabric
The Rio Range is by Modelo Fabrics and there are 10 amazing colours to choose from. I chose the olive green as it’s a favourite colour of mine and also a great autumn/winter colour. It is a medium weight, smooth finish, stretch cotton sateen, with 97% cotton and 3% elastane. Perfect for dresses, skirts and trousers.
I was planning on wearing these trousers with lots of autumnal colours that I have in my wardrobe. I love to mix and match and create as many different outfits as I can. I love all the deep autumn colour palette shades and this was a perfect shade for me.

Super Easy Sewing Pattern For Beginners
If you are looking for a sewing pattern that will gently ease you into making trousers then this is perfect. The pattern consists of four pieces!
The instructions are clear and easy to follow, with full step by step illustrations too! The only technical part was inserting the invisible zip, but the instructions explained everything clearly, making it a stress-free procedure!
Once the zip was inserted all that was left to do was add the waist facing and then sew the hems. I had to look twice to see if I had missed anything out as they were the easiest trousers I have made so far.
Sizing and Fit
The pattern covers from size 8 to 20, so very size inclusive which is great to see in sewing patterns.
I had read that there may be some fitting issues with this pattern so I made sure I chose the correct size based on my body measurements. I was considering making a toile to be on the safe side but in the end, I just decided to sew them straight away. I chose the size 12 and I am overall really pleased as they fit me perfectly. Obviously, the fabric I chose has some stretch to it which does give extra ease to the trousers. If I was to use a woven non-stretch fabric next time I probably would make a toile first to be extra sure of the fit.
The trouser is designed to sit just below the natural waist line, a style I don’t often go for, I usually prefer a high waisted trouser. I am pleasantly surprised though at how nice they sit on this lower waist style and I love how the invisible zip just gives a clean finish to the silhouette.
These trousers are just elegant and simple and oh so comfortable to wear. They remind me of the styles that Audrey Hepburn would wear. Those classic vintage trousers of the fifties, with tapered legs and cropped leg length. I am now planning on making my second pair already with perhaps a vintage bark cloth fabric which would look fabulous.
Overall, I am super pleased with how my first Sew Over It project turned out. I think my fabric choice and colour are just perfect for this trouser style.
If you have never ventured into making trousers, and you like this style, then I would highly recommend this pattern. You will be pleasantly surprised at how easy they are to make and will give you a great sewing confidence boost.
I hope after reading this you are feeling inspired to have a go at making a pair for yourself! You won’t be disappointed.
Thanks for reading and happy sewing!
