Fiona Pullen The Sewing Directory

Now that's out of the way let me tell you a little more about myself and The Sewing Directory.

My name is Fiona Pullen, before The Sewing Directory I studied law at Cardiff university and then worked for a firm of loss adjusters in their legal team. Nothing craft or sewing related at all. However in 2008 that all changed, I had my son James and wanted to do something more creative and which would allow me to be at home with him not working in an office.

Whilst on maternity I helped my mother with the online side of her business, a chain of sewing shops in Cornwall. During this time I noticed it was quite hard to locate sewing businesses on the internet. It took a long time trawling through Google or social networks to find what you want so I set up this site with the goals of making it simpler to locate your local sewing business or online suppliers.  I also wanted to create something which was affordable for small businesses as well as large business.

Julie Briggs Sewing Directory

In April 2015 ex-Sewing World editor Julie Briggs joined The Sewing Directory as a co-owner and content manager.

Her primary role is to build up the content side of the site adding more great tutorials, technique guides, projects and news etc.

If you want to get involved in the content side of the site please contact Julie on How to contact Julie Briggs

Julie is a passionate stitcher whose main interest lies in machine embroidery and textile art.

Our mission statement for the site is:

Where to find great sewing resources

I started out with sewing businesses, building a directory of local sewing shops, sewing groups,  sewing schools and online stores.  Then as the site grew I introduced a database of sewing classes so you canCraft a creative Business - Making and Marketing a Succesful Creative Business by Fiona Pullen search for local sewing courses in your area, an events page for sewing and craft events around the country plus free projects, tutorials, industry news and many other great sewing related articles.  All aimed at saving you time by bringing all the information together into one place for you.

Whether you are just learning to sew, or are an experienced seamstress there is something for everyone.  The site has become much more than just a directory, we now have a community of over 100,000 people all interacting on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram.  Why not come and join us?

If you would like more information about ways you could get involved with The Sewing Directory please contact me on Sewing project website UK

I am also the author of Craft a Creative Business, a guide to setting up a creative business which is published by Search Press. The second edition of this book is now available under the new name of Making & Marketing a Successful Art & Craft Business.
