Learn a new skill this new year

Why not make one of your New Years Resolutions learning a new skill?  Sewing courses are not all about dressmaking or quilting, there are plenty of other great classes to get you going in 2011.  We have been inundated with new sewing courses on the directory so why not discover what you could learn in 2011.

London:

Those of you lucky enough to live in London a positively spolit with options!

Why not learn to screen print your own textiles, or crochet fashion accessories with The Make Lounge? Alternatively Roz Designs could teach you how to pattern cut, or dye and print fabric.

The Thrifty Stitcher offer courses in making fascinators or for something a bit different roman blinds.  Saturday Sewing Session has some unique classes including making a draught excluding sausage dog, a padded tea cosy or frilly knickers.sewing kit

 

Sew Over It offer courses on how to become a sewing goddess.  You can learn pattern making, textile design and even jewellery and accessory making with Little Hands Design.  Sew So Pretty have great sounding courses including Oh Sew Basic, Bring Out the Bunting and Bagsof Fun. 

You could start getting ready for the summer with Seams So Easy and their courses in making a summer cross over dress, an A-line skirt and Terrific Tunics.  Many of the above businesses offer sewing classes for children and teenagers if it is your kids who are keen to learn.  

Sue Hazell offer courses in London, Oxfordshire and even in short breaks in The Cotswolds and France!  As well as the basic dressmaking and introduction to your machine classes you can also learn how to draw with your sewing machine - as seen on Kirstie's Homemade Home.

Outside of London:

At Wardrobe Wizards in Surrey not only can you do standard dressmaking but you can learn to make fancy dress costumes, sportswear, and accessories like bags, bow ties and hats.

Suffolk Sewing School can teach you the skills you need to give your house a re-vamp from curtains & blinds to cushions and quilts.

In Staffordshire Maria Breslin offers courses on embroidery, and using embroidery software to help you out with your new embroidery machine.

Popular courses at Darn It & Stitch in Oxford include lace making and corsetry, who wouldn’t love to have an hour glass figure?

In Liverpool you could learn how to make a fab Mary Poppins style bag with Abakhan Fabrics, they also offer a range of course including knitting, felting, crochet, various bag making courses, dressmaking and quilting.
