Ties
Whether for office wear, or formal wear the chances are that the man you are making for will need a tie at sometime in the next year. By making a tie specifically for them not only do they have something unique but you can tailor it specifically to their favourite colours or to match a specific outfit.

Gadget Cases
Most men love their gadgets, Laptops, I-phones, e-readers, I-pods, cameras, mobiles etc so what not make them a case for their favourite gadget. I've linked to a few tutorials below for various gadgets cases but you can find plenty more if you google for the specific type you want.

Clothing
Clothing patterns for men can be hard to find but luckily a few stylish women's pattern companies have recently started producing menswear patterns. Colette Pattern's men's shirt proved
very popular with there being several sew-alongs to be found online including this one over on the Male Pattern Boldness blog. They have also recently run a boxer sew-along on the same blog.
Hot Patterns are another pattern brand who have recently started drafting patterns for menswear, with a jeans pattern and a shirt pattern available and I suspect there are more to come...
When it comes to more formal wear for men (suits) It's hard to find good free tutorial available online but there are several sites with advice on making a man's suit and what patterns to use. Fabric wise Huddersfield Cloth offer a range of fine luxury cloth at very reasonable prices and no minimum order amount.

Stockings
If you are thinking of getting several smaller gifts for the man in your life why not make him his own stocking which you can fill up with treats. There are some great fabrics which would make cool stockings for men, my husband's one (below) is made with this Dr Who Fabric or what about this Pacman fabric?
