About The Sewing Directory
First of all to quickly cover the main things that always get asked:
How to sign up = click here.
Price = £5 a month or £50 a year.
Now that's out of the way let me tell you a little more about myself and The Sewing Directory. My name is Fiona Pullen and I am the founder of The Sewing Directory. I studied law at Cardiff university and then went on to work in insurance. A few years ago (3 to be precise) I had my son, whilst on maternity leave reaslised that I didn't want to go back to my job and wanted to do something i'd really enjoy and that enabled me to be at home and look after my son too.
It took me a few attempts to work out exactly what that would be, I knew it would be something online and tried out a few ideas and then whilst working on the website for my mum's business (www.makedoandmendonline.co.uk) I realised that there was not anywhere to promote sewing websites. You could design an amazing site but how could you help people to find it?
I started researching and realised that the main business directories were very hard to use when it came to sewing related businesses. They list everything in such narrow categories that unless you use the exact keyword they want you to use you may not be able to find what you are looking for. For sewing businesses it means you generally fall within several categories which means you either have to pick just one and lose the potential business from the other categories or pay extra to be included in additional categories.
That is why we have such broad categories so advertisers get more for their money and it is easier for site users to find what they want. Also if you do fall within more than 1 category, it doesn't cost you any extra! People still have to option of narrowing their search by using the free text keyword search should they want to do so.
I thought it
might be a bit boring if it was just a directory, so I have included projcets, interviews, how to guides, reviews and weekly competitions. Whether you are just learning to sew, or are an experienced seamstress there is something for everyone. The site has become much more than just a directory, we now have a community of over 5,000 people all interacting on Facebook, Twitter and our blog. Why not come and join us?
Since our launch in March 2010 the site has grown so much I now have 2 lovely helpers:
<<<<Beth Edmondson an avid sewist who does social media updates in the evenings and writes some of the content for the site.
Juliet Bawden a popular craft author who has written over 60 craft books and blogs at Creative Salvage who does many book reviews & show reviews for the site.
